  12. The changes I have made in the UnixTeX version of the Makefiles
  13. are the simplest stopgap I can manage.  There is no attempt
  14. to play configuration games.  They simply recognize that
  15. LaTeX2e is the default now, and not latex209.  I shall
  16. be very happy to chuck this stopgap in favor of a more
  17. systematic configuration plan, but I can't send out a
  18. Makefile asking for lplain when lplain is no longer in the
  19. normal paths.

  21. Likewise for the placement of the old-style times.sty and its
  22. cousins.   I have to divert them so that thay don't overwrite
  23. the ones that work with LaTeX2e.

  47. North American academic institutions have been taken over by MBA 
  48. bean-counters and genuine or wannabe industry CEOs.  Just when 
  49. American industry is beginning to doubt the wisdom of autocratic 
  50. pyramidal dictatorship, most American Universities have adopted 
  51. that style of management, which is nice for refugees from defense 
  52. industry boardrooms, but rather sickening for the rest of us.
